You mean prism2.o and prism2_cs.o? I've never needed to install linux-wlan-ng first. The two will conflict since they both are for the same type of card. You need...

/lib/modules/x.x.x/pcmcia/prism2.o (the module) /etc/pcmcia/prism2.conf (the PCMCIA card bindings), and "Wireless LAN (non-hamradio)" (Wireless extensions) enabled in the kernel

But that's about it.
